Class Reflection #2
The past couple of weeks I have been going out to recess with the second grade students that I am observing. Its a lot of fun when the girls want me to play with them, but sometimes I feel like a loser when they don't want to play with me and I walk around by myself... The two sweetest girls in the whole class, Gema and Jocelyn, are both from Mexico City and they always want to play with me. I find it interesting that they are immigrants to the U.S. and are the nicest girls in the classroom. They also are two of the brightest students as well. Spanish is their first language but Gema and Jocelyn are two of the top English readers and writers in the class! How does that work? One would think that they would lag the farthest behind considering that English is their second language. This is not how it works though. They also are the two most groomed girls in the class. (odd observation, I know, but its true!) Most of the girls moms barely brush their hair before they send them off to school, but Gema and Jocelyn, who both have long thick black hair that falls down past their derriere, always come to school with their hair brushed clean or in french braids. Isn't that kind of funny? Maybe I'm the only one who thinks so.

Great observation about the students in your classroom. It must be fun to realize that these students are no longer names but you are getting to know them by observing their actions and their work. Do Gema & Jocelyn make a point of including other students in their play as well?
