One thought that I had about how I would like to use Smartboard in my classroom came to me while I was observing my cooperating teacher read a story book to her second graders the other day. All 24 students were piled on to the reading carpet listening to the story but none of them could see the illustrations from where they were seated. After each page my cooperating teacher got up out of her chair and ever so slowly moved the book from left to right (her arms fully extended to bring the book closer to the students eyes)to display each illustration to the students. This tedious activity wasted a good 5 to 10 minutes of class time.
My solution to this problem is to read picture books on the Smartboard. This way each illustration would be fully visible to all students and they could stay in their desks while the story is read instead of crowding on to the cramped reading carpet. This would save class time and minimize querelling between the students because they all would get a fair chance to see the illustrations.
